Its been now close to 3 years, most of us are working from home or remote location. Being a father of two very young kid, I evaluated this on various parameters, and listing down several reasons why remote jobs have become more successful for people like me. I am going to list the generic point here which is applicable to majority of us working remotely. 😊

Increased flexibility: Remote jobs allow employees to work from anywhere, which means they can have a better work-life balance and flexibility in their schedule. Remote jobs increase flexibility in several ways:

  1. Location independence: Remote jobs allow employees to work from anywhere, which means they can live in a place they prefer, whether it’s closer to family, in a more affordable area, or in a place with better weather. Schooling is something which can’t be performed remotely. I stay close to my kid school, so that she doesn’t get burn out due to the long commute.
  2. Flexible schedule: With remote jobs, employees have more control over their work schedule and can often create a schedule that works best for them and their personal responsibilities. The kind of work which I do requires a bit of creativity and focus time. Due to this flexible schedule I get the privilege to opt for the time when I am most productive. Sometime I work early in the morning, or late in night. When I feel less productive or dizziness I take break, and channelise my energy somewhere else. Can you do this being at office?
  3. Reduced commute: In country like India where city is heavily crowded, even travelling few miles can take you hours. Remote jobs eliminate the need for a daily commute, which can save employees time and money.
  4. Reduced distractions: Remote jobs allow employees to create a work environment that suits their needs and reduces distractions, leading to increased productivity.
  5. Better work-life balance: Remote jobs allow employees to have more control over their time, which can lead to a better work-life balance and improved mental and physical health.

Cost savings: Remote jobs can save employees money on commuting and work-related expenses. Remote jobs can save employees money in several ways:

  1. Commuting costs: Remote jobs eliminate the need for a daily commute, which can save employees money on transportation costs such as gas, public transportation, or car maintenance. Average Indian spend 5% of their salary and 10% of their day on commute.
  2. Work-related expenses: Remote jobs can also save employees money on work-related expenses such as work clothes, dry cleaning, and meals.
  3. Office-related expenses: Remote jobs can also save employees money on office-related expenses such as parking and office supplies.
  4. Childcare and eldercare expenses and security: In recent time the attack on minors and children has kept many of the parents anxious over their child care. Remote jobs can save employees money on childcare and eldercare expenses, as they can take care of their children or elderly relatives while working from home.
  5. Reduced office costs: Remote jobs can save companies money on office-related expenses such as rent, electricity, and office supplies.

Increased productivity: Remote workers have reported being more productive when working from home. This can be attributed to a more comfortable work environment, less distractions and better time management.

  1. Comfortable work environment: Remote workers have the ability to create a work environment that suits their needs, which can lead to increased comfort and reduced distractions.
  2. Reduced interruptions: Remote jobs can reduce the number of interruptions that employees face on a daily basis such as office noise, office politics and other distractions.
  3. Flexible schedule: Remote jobs can allow employees to create a schedule that works best for them and their personal responsibilities, leading to increased productivity.
  4. Increased autonomy: Remote jobs can give employees more autonomy and control over their work, which can lead to increased motivation and engagement.
  5. Better time management: Remote jobs can help employees better manage their time, as they can avoid wasted time spent on commuting and other non-work-related activities.
  6. Increased focus: Remote jobs can help employees to stay focused on their work and to be more productive, as they have a more controllable environment

Access to a larger talent pool: Remote jobs allow companies to hire employees from anywhere in the world, which means they have access to a larger pool of talented individuals.

Better retention: Remote jobs can lead to happier, more fulfilled employees, which in turn can lead to better retention rates.

Environmental benefits: Remote jobs can reduce the need for office spaces and the carbon footprint associated with commuting. 🌏

PS: It is important to note that remote work is not suitable for every type of job or worker. But wherever its feasible why we should not leverage this luxury? 😊
